Hiring Foreign Workers
Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore regulates the foreign hiring processes strictly. All of the foreign workers need to have a valid work pass (or work visa) before they start working. This is especially important for employers if you are planning to hire foreign workers in Singapore.
While hiring foreign employees, one should be notified that only the workers between 18 and 50 years old are legit to apply for a work pass. (Malaysian workers may apply for the pass up to the age of 58)
The work pass is categorised into different types to match with employees’ skill levels:
- Work Permit
Work Permit is needed for unskilled or semi-skilled foreign workers. Only the workers from specific source countries stated by MOM are eligible for a work permit. The additional information regarding work permit can be found here.
- S Pass
S Pass is the work visa that suits semi-skilled or mid-level skilled staff. The employees should be earning at least $2200 per month for holding S Pass. The holders need to have a degree or diploma as well. More criteria for S Pass can be found here.
- Employment Pass
Employment pass is meant for foreigners who take the role of professionals, managers, and executives in Singapore. The workers need to earn more than $3600 per month. - Personalised Employment Pass
This is a pass meant for Employment Pass holders that earns a lot. The Employment Pass holders should earn at least $12000 per month to apply for Personalised Employment Pass.
